Seine River

Design of upgrades and expansion to the water treatment plant underway, operational improvements ongoing

Project tracker

Projected lift date: TBD

Seine River First Nation in Ontario is home to 363 people on reserve. The community is working to upgrade and expand their water treatment plant, with funding from Indigenous Services Canada (ISC).

There is 1 long-term drinking water advisory affecting 90 homes and 8 community buildings:

The advisory was initially issued because the water treatment system is not meeting the disinfection requirements needed to provide safe drinking water to the community. Ongoing work includes designing major upgrades to the water treatment plant, improving day-to-day operations, and building a new standpipe. The standpipe is an above‑ground tank that stores treated drinking water, and is expected to be completed in early 2026.

Once the plant expansion and upgrades are complete and consistent operations are in place, the water will need to be tested multiple times to confirm it meets all applicable guidelines and standards. When these steps are completed the community should be in a position to lift the advisory.
