Project tracker
Projected lift date: TBD
Home to 645 people on reserve, Cat Lake First Nation in Ontario has completed upgrades to the water treatment system, with funding from Indigenous Services Canada (ISC).
There is 1 long-term drinking water advisory affecting 1 community building:
- a boil water advisory for the Temporary Nursing Station Semi-Public Water System was set in March 2024 and became long-term in March 2025
The advisory was initially put in place due to the system being inactive for an extended period and requiring upgrades to meet applicable guidelines and standards. Additionally, frozen lines resulted in a loss of connection to the water source.
Upgrades to the water treatment system have been completed, including the installation of a reverse osmosis unit. An Indigenous Services Canada Environmental Public Health Officer confirmed that the water quality meets drinking water guidelines, however, consistent monitoring and operations are required before the advisory can be lifted. The community is currently developing a plan to hire and train a local water operator.
