Project tracker
Projected lift date: TBD
"I am glad Indigenous Services Canada is partnering with us and committing to the rest of the funds needed to ensure that members of the Chippewas of Georgina Island First Nation can look forward to clean, safe and reliable drinking water. This is a basic necessity for our members."
Home to 210 people on reserve, Chippewas of Georgina Island in Ontario completed upgrades and expanded their water treatment plant, with funding from Indigenous Services Canada (ISC).
There is 1 long-term drinking water advisory affecting 81 homes:
- a boil water advisory for the Georgina Island Public Water System was set in April 2017 and became long-term in April 2018
Upgrades to the water treatment plant were substantially completed in December 2019 and the plant is producing clean drinking water.
Work to upgrade, repair and extend piped service to additional homes and buildings in the community is also complete. The community is addressing minor issues with the extended distribution system. Once complete, the community should be in a position to lift the advisory.
The Ogemawahj Tribal Council Water and Wastewater Hub has been working with the local operators to support operations, monitoring and record keeping.
